Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Urges Parents to Prioritize Education

Governor Tong Akeen Ngor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State recently visited Yargot Upper Primary School in Aweil East County, emphasizing the importance of education for children. During his inspection visit, Governor Akeen encouraged parents to prioritize sending their children to school to secure a brighter future for them.

Renovation of Yargot Primary School

Governor Akeen also announced that the renovation of Yargot Primary School is underway and will be completed in the shortest period possible. He assured parents that the State Ministry of General Education and Instruction is committed to providing a conducive learning environment for students.

Promoting Higher Education

In addition to focusing on primary education, Governor Akeen highlighted the importance of higher education. He mentioned the operation of the University of Northern Bahr El Ghazal and encouraged students to work hard to reach the university level. Addressing the issue of school dropout, he assured the community that efforts are being made to address this concern through the university.

Support for Flood Victims

Governor Akeen also promised support for flood victims in the state, emphasizing that both the National and State Governments are working to provide relief to those affected. This commitment reflects the government’s dedication to addressing various challenges faced by the community.

Challenges in Education Sector

According to a report by UNICEF, South Sudan has a high rate of out-of-school children, with more than 2.8 million children, or 70%, not attending school. Factors such as poverty, child marriage, and cultural barriers contribute to this concerning statistic. UNICEF also highlighted the lack of qualified teachers and damaged school infrastructure as challenges in the education sector.

Back to School Campaign

Recently, the State Ministry of General Education & Instructions launched a “Back to School Campaign” in Nyamlel of Aweil West County. Governor Akeen reiterated his government’s commitment to renovating schools across the state to create a conducive learning environment for students. He also announced free education for martyrs’ children at public schools in Aweil, emphasizing the importance of providing opportunities for all children to access education.

Scholarship Opportunities

Governor Akeen further stated that the State Government is actively seeking scholarship opportunities from the National Government to support children in pursuing higher education abroad. This initiative aims to provide additional educational opportunities for students in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
