Unexpected Postponement

Initial communications had indicated that the final would take place next week on May 5, 2025. However, the organizing committee announced via the South Sudan Football Association’s (SSFA) social media platforms that the game would not proceed as originally scheduled.

“The new date for the final match will be communicated soon,” read an official statement on the SSFA Facebook page.

The Journey to the Final

Jamus FC secured their place in the final by defeating Koyrom FC 2-0 in a semi-final encounter marred by the dismissal of five Koyrom FC players, leading to the premature abandonment of the game. Meanwhile, Al-Merriekh FC advanced to the final after a decisive 5-0 victory over Aweil United FC in the other semi-final.

Recent Encounters

The two finalists last met in the revised fixtures of the South Sudan Premier League last month, with Jamus FC, known as “the Buffaloes,” emerging victorious with a 3-1 scoreline. Notably, Al-Merriekh FC has not recorded a win against Jamus FC in the past year.

Formidable Performances

Both Jamus FC and Al-Merriekh FC have displayed formidable form in the 14th edition of the 2024/25 South Sudan Cup. Jamus FC reached the final by eliminating St. Mary FC 9-2 on aggregate, Koryom FC 2-0, and Majak Ajoung FC. On the other hand, Al-Merriekh FC’s journey to the final included a 5-0 semi-final win against Aweil United and a resounding 10-0 victory over Al-Merriekh FC Renk in the quarter-finals.

Third-Place Playoff

In the third-place playoff, Aweil United edged out Koryom FC 7-6 in a penalty shootout at Juba Stadium after the match concluded 1-1 in normal time, securing the third spot in the 2024/25 South Sudan Cup.

With the South Sudan Cup final postponed, fans of both Jamus FC and Al-Merriekh FC eagerly await the rescheduled match. As the teams prepare to battle it out for the coveted trophy, the anticipation and excitement continue to build.
