Partnership with Ministry and Women’s Association

MTN has teamed up with the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare and the South Sudan Women Entrepreneurs Association (SSWEA) to launch the Y’ello Care Campaign. The campaign will benefit 50 women dealing in the value chain and food processing, equipping them with the necessary skills to access a wider market.

Empowering Women for Sustainable Growth

Speaking at the launch of Y’ello Care, MTN Chief Commercial Officer, Saint Hillary, emphasized the importance of empowering women for sustainable economic growth, development, and peace. "Women are the key pillars that can help in sustainable economic growth, development, and peace," he said. "Today, more than half of the population are women, so we cannot grow, succeed, and meet all the challenges in life if we don’t empower women, who are half of humanity."

Training and Support for Women Entrepreneurs

The executive director of the South Sudan Women Entrepreneurs Association, Ms. Jane Gordon, appreciated MTN’s efforts in training businesswomen on digital skills. She noted that now is the time for women entrepreneurs to get the training from MTN to enable them to sell their products online using their smartphones. SSWEA also has a center where women can bring their goods to showcase and get marketed.

Annual Community Event

MTN’s acting Human Resource Manager and Cooperative Services, Mr. Makhosanke, explained that Y’ello Care is an annual event where MTN employees go out to the community to support the community. The 21-day event aims to give back to the community and make a positive impact on the lives of women entrepreneurs.

Expected Outcomes

At the end of the campaign, the 50 women will be equipped with the skills they need to upgrade their marketing. They will have access to online marketing, and MTN will advertise their products. MTN Specialist for Sustainability and Social Impact, Ms. Arich Baak Kuol, noted that they can create social media pages for the women to advertise their products, encouraging local production rather than relying on imports.

Conclusion

The 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign is a significant initiative that aims to empower women entrepreneurs in South Sudan. By providing them with digital skills, financial tools, and business skills, MTN is contributing to sustainable economic growth, development, and peace in the country. The campaign is a testament to MTN’s commitment to giving back to the community and making a positive impact on the lives of women entrepreneurs. With the theme "Empowering Women Entrepreneurs to Unlock Community Growth and Job Creation," the campaign is set to make a lasting difference in the lives of the 50 women participating in the program.
